Level 2: Smart Making (Grades 2-3)

Mondays @ 4PM; 10 sessions; 75 mins per session

550 US dollars

Description

10 sessions: No sessions on 1/19, 2/16 and 3/30 Who should take this class: Students who took Fall 2025 Level 2 Smart Making or have equivalent maker experience. Reach out to us if you have any questions and we can help figure out if this is the right fit for your child. What you will learn: Level 2 students build on foundations from Level 1 and incorporate external sensors to make their projects "smart". They'll explore more advanced robotics concepts that involve external sensors and power management. They will also go deeper into CAD design for 3D printing or laser cutting the structural components of their project. Winter Theme - Things That Move: Create sophisticated motion-sensing projects that respond to the world around them! Students design interactive moving installations like a motion-triggered spinning display, a vehicle that navigates obstacles using ultrasonic sensors.Projects combine mechanical engineering (understanding how to build smooth-moving structures) with sensor integration and programming, allowing students to create truly intelligent moving creations. Students experiment with servo motors, gear systems, and sensor arrays to build projects that don't just move—they move intentionally. Skills practiced: • Advanced circuits • Motor control and sensor integration • Micro:bit programming • Sensor programming and calibration • CAD design • Laser cutting • 3D printing • Mechanical engineering concepts • Project planning • Prototyping and iteration • User-centered design 5% family discount for anyone signing up more than one person for classes at the Maker Hive.
