Description
Who is this for Teens and adults who want to go deep on a real electronics and fabrication project. No prior experience needed. This is Maker Hive's most ambitious evening program. What you'll do Light Jam is an original project designed and invented by Aarthi, founder of The Maker Hive. Over 8 dedicated build nights you'll design and build your own Light Jam controller from scratch - a custom light show controller that combines old-school mechanical switches and a tactile brightness knob, evoking the satisfying aesthetic of a vintage control panel, wired up to a string of programmableLEDs. You'll design your own enclosure in Onshape or Tinkercad, 3D print it in the studio, write/remix CircuitPython code on a Raspberry Pi Pico to program your light sequences, and wire your own circuit from scratch. Every Light Jam controller is unique - the enclosure layout, the switch colors, the light sequences, and the code are entirely yours. The session kicks off with a social night - a relaxed open lab evening to meet your fellow makers, see the project, and get excited. One social night per month runs alongside the build sessions, giving you space to work on side projects, get help, and connect with the broader Maker Hive community. What you'll learn • Raspberry Pi Pico and CircuitPython • Programmable LED programming • Mechanical switch and knob wiring • Circuit design and layout • Onshape / Tinkercad CAD for enclosure design • 3D printing • Soldering basics • Project planning and iteration What's included All materials included - Raspberry Pi Pico, mechanical switches and keycaps, string lights, rotary brightness knob, wiring and connectors, and 3D printed enclosure.
