The Maker Hive | Hastings-on-Hudson, NY | Part-Time, 10+ hrs/week

 

​Responsibilities

• Lead after-school classes and camps in tinkering, coding, robotics, and 3D printing for elementary and middle school students

• Approximately 10 hours/week: afternoons after 3:30 PM Monday–Thursday, plus Saturdays during the school year

• Camp days/times vary seasonally and will be confirmed with the schedule

• Teach curriculum using microcontrollers, hobby electronics (motors, LEDs), and fabrication tools (3D printers, laser cutters)

• Supervise and mentor high school assistants during sessions

• Maintain and troubleshoot makerspace equipment (3D printers, laser cutters, laptops)

• Run safety training on tools like hot glue guns, box cutters, and laser cutters; maintain a safe space at all times

• Keep the workspace organized so materials are easy to find

• Track supply needs and flag shortages proactively

• Submit lesson plans in advance using provided templates; collaborate with the director on curriculum development

• Communicate promptly and reliably — checking email regularly and responding to scheduling or student needs same-day

Qualifications

• Dependable and communicative — this role requires on-time, consistent attendance and proactive communication. We're a small team and rely on our instructors to show up as scheduled and open the space for classes.

• Reliable commute to Hastings-on-Hudson (also convenient from Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, Irvington, and Yonkers)

• Experience teaching or working with children

• Familiarity with electronics and coding; comfort learning new tools

• Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive

• Bonus: experience with MakeCode, Scratch, micro:bit, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or Tinkercad

• Bonus: STEM degree or background
