After Hours: Print Shop Drop-In
Teens 15+ & Adults | 1.5 hours | 10-week session or Drop-In | Sundays 4:30–6 PM
Description
Who is this for Teens 15 and up and adults at any level — complete beginners through experienced printmakers looking to deepen their practice. You can join the full session or drop in as your schedule allows. What you’ll do Print Shop is an open studio printmaking series where you explore at your own pace under Emily’s guidance. There is no fixed weekly theme — instead you work through the core techniques of relief printing at the pace that suits you: linocut carving, gelli printing, registration and multi-color work, reduction printing, and mixed media combinations. Beginners start with the fundamentals — positive and negative space, the mirror image, how ink transfers from block to paper — and build from there. Experienced printmakers bring their own projects and push their practice further with Emily’s support. Each session is 1.5 hours of hands-on making. Emily circulates, demonstrates, and works with each person individually. The result is a relaxed, productive studio atmosphere where everyone is working on something different and learning from watching each other. Techniques available to explore • Relief printing with stamps, blocks, and the studio Prixel press • Linocut carving (single color, two-color, and reduction printing) • Gelli plate printing • Registration and multi-color alignment • Mixed media and experimental combinations Full session or drop-in Signing up for the full 10-week session gives you the most continuity — you can develop a body of work and build techniques progressively. Drop-in students are welcome to join 30 minutes into each session as space allows ($35 / 90 minutes). We need a minimum of two students to run each session. About Emily Emily Erwin-McGuire is a lifelong Hastings resident with a background as a public school and art educator. Her own work finds reverence and beauty in everyday objects — a simple chair, a flower, hands playing cat’s cradle. She brings the same quality of attention to her teaching, meeting each student exactly where they are. Class Information Drop-in: $35 for 90 minutes (drop-ins arrive 30 minutes after class starts, as space allows). Payment: Zelle (914-319-9096) is preferred.
