The Role
We're looking for a part-time Director of Operations & Programming - a right-hand to our founder, owning the operational and programming rhythm of The Maker Hive so she can focus on expanding our programming and launching a sister non-profit..
You won't just run the systems - you'll build them. You think ahead, document as you go, and make sure nothing lives only in someone's head. This role has room to grow as The Maker Hive grows.
What You'll Own
Programming & Scheduling
• Build and maintain the full programming calendar - semester classes, summer camps, school's out camps, weekend workshops, birthday parties, and after-hours events
• Identify workshop topics, source instructors, and set pricing across program types
• Plan registration timelines and coordinate with our digital/marketing admin to implement programs on our website
• Own the full program pipeline from concept to execution
Operations & Systems
• Create and document processes across all areas of operations - so how The Maker Hive runs is captured, repeatable, and not living in anyone's head
• Manage instructor accountability, scheduling, supplies, and logistics
• Handle day-to-day coordination so the founder isn't the bottleneck
Marketing & Communications
• Work with our marketing and web admin to plan advertising cadence and channels
• Coordinate the weekly newsletter - content, timing, and sign-off
• Keep our website and class listings current
Events & Community
• Own logistics for showcases, community events, and open houses
• Manage volunteers and support community partnerships
Studio Presence
• Spend 3-4 hours per week at The Maker Hive - dropping into classes, capturing photos for content, and monitoring space organization and supply needs
Nonprofit Work (as it evolves)
• Support the development of our nonprofit arm and help build community relationships
The Shape of The Year
This role demands someone who can plan the next thing while executing the current one - always.
Fall semester schedules go out in July while summer camps are still running. Winter semester is due in November alongside the start of summer camp planning. Spring semester publishes end of February. Layer in workshops, birthday parties, school's out camps, and a weekly newsletter, and you have a role where parallel thinking isn't a nice-to-have - it's the job.
If you thrive on complexity, build systems instinctively, and get satisfaction from making things run smoothly, this will feel like home.
Who You Are
• Exceptionally organized - you finish tasks before people remember to ask
• A systems thinker who documents as you go
• Genuinely excited about maker education and community building
• A warm, clear communicator with staff, families, and partners
• Calm and resourceful when things go sideways
• Based in Hastings-on-Hudson or nearby (Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, Yonkers radius)
Bonus if you have:
• Experience in education administration, nonprofit management, or program coordination
• Familiarity with maker culture, STEM education, or arts programming
• STEM teaching experience and the ability to “sub” for a class if needed
• Connections in the Hastings/Westchester community
Tools we use - comfortable working with:
• Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
• Wix (website, bookings, and newsletter)
• Canva
• QuickBooks
• Instagram
• Notion
You don't need to be an expert in all of these - but comfort across most of them matters.
Logistics
-
Hours: ~10 hours/week, flexible with some predictable weekly anchors
Location: Hastings-on-Hudson, NY - hybrid with 3–4 hrs/week in studio required
Compensation: $25–35/hour depending on experience, plus performance bonuses tied to enrollment and program growth
Start: Summer 2026, ideally late June
