Description
Who should take this class: Students in grades 4–8 who want to build and program robots — no prior experience needed. This class is also perfect for students planning to compete in First Lego League (FLL) in the fall, as spring is when we build the coding foundation that makes competition season a success. What you will learn: Spring is all about getting comfortable with the Lego Spike Prime platform so that when fall competition season arrives, you're ready to build fast, program confidently, and focus on strategy rather than scrambling to learn the basics. Students will work with Spike Prime's block-based coding environment to program robots that can sense, move, and respond to the world around them. Each week introduces new concepts through hands-on building challenges — from getting a robot to drive in precise patterns, to using sensors to navigate obstacles, to coordinating multiple motors for complex movement. Skills practiced: Lego Spike Prime block coding • Motor control • Sensor integration • Logical and sequential thinking • Mechanical design and building techniques • Collaboration and communication • Competition strategy fundamentals Class Information 5% family discount for anyone signing up more than one person for classes at the Maker Hive.
